With 25 years of experience as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, reading specialist, interventionist, and staff developer, I understand how children learn and what they need to feel successful.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Reading and am a Certified Dyslexia Specialist with advanced training in SLANT/Orton-Gillingham Structured Literacy and The Writing Revolution.

At The Knowledge Bee, I combine explicit, research-based instruction with meaningful reading and writing experiences tailored to each student’s strengths and needs.

The goal? Kids who feel capable, curious, and excited to learn!

What happy families & administrators are saying!

  • Cathy Doyle is an extremely gifted teacher who uses all she knows from decades (over 25 years) of experience as a teacher leader, staff and curriculum developer, and elite reading specialist to elevate her students. She regularly goes above and beyond to teach authentic strategies for success while cultivating deep understanding and a love of learning. Having the opportunity to learn from Cathy is a rare privilege and quite simply the best gift you can give your child.

-Jill Schlossberg,  Literacy Specialist and Former Evanston Skokie D65 Districtwide Literacy Coach

  • We have noticed such great improvement from Logan thanks to Ms Doyle. She understands where he is at and meets him there while also engaging with him on things that interest him.

    -Julia, mom of first grader

  • Cathy Doyle is just truly a gifted teacher and professional development provider. Whether in person or online, she’s an experienced expert with the content being taught. More importantly, her true gift is empathizing with and engaging learners of all ages. She always finds a way to make the content matter to the learner, which helps the new information stick. I have been in awe of her teaching for over 20 years and continue to learn from her myself.

—Connie Obrochta, Adjunct Instructor, The Center for Literacy Excellence at National Louis University

  • My child, who always has shown resistance to reading, is now an avid reader that is more and more confident in school! It’s been a game changer for us!

    -Denise, mom of fifth grader

  • Cathy Doyle is a gifted literacy educator and one of the best I have ever known. She brings a wealth of knowledge and research to her work while also creating a warm and caring environment that helps children develop the skills and confidence to become competent readers and writers. She does this so well that I asked her to share her practices with other teachers. The teachers in her professional development sessions always rate her as one of the best they have experienced. It is a pleasure to work with such an outstanding teacher.

-Ellen Fogelberg, former Assistant Superintendent of Schools, D65, and former Literacy Director, D65.

  • We’ve seen wonderful progress in our daughter’s writing, reading, and phonics skills, but it’s the confidence Cathy has helped her build that has truly made the difference- giving her the ability to grow into a stronger, more independent learner.

    -Becky, mom of 6th grader

  • Cathy Doyle has many years of teaching experience and has an extensive knowledge of teaching and learning. She is the exceptional kind of teacher you are so grateful your child had the opportunity to experience. Her caring and compassionate teaching style has made a difference in so many of her student’s lives. When observing Ms. Doyle with students, you are inspired by her enthusiasm, energy and passion. I have always been in total awe of her creativity and ability to inspire and motivate her students. Cathy Doyle is also experienced at providing high quality professional development sessions. She has a deep understanding of literacy theory and is able to translate that literacy theory into practice.

    -Linda Shusterman, Literacy Leader

  • What we love is the growth in both skills and confidence—we’ve seen such meaningful progress.

-Liz, mom of 4th grader in year 3 with Ms. Doyle

  • Watching Cathy Doyle teach is one of those rare experiences that reminds you what supportive instruction can look and feel like. Whether working with a classroom full of children or working with one child, Cathy brings genuine curiosity and care to every interaction. Her practice seems to be an extension of who she is. Cathy shows a real commitment to meeting children exactly where they are, then finding ways to stretch their thinking, spark their curiosity, and draw out their creativity. I learned a great deal from time spent in Cathy's classroom, and I would trust her with my own children without hesitation.

-Max Weinberg, former principal, Evanston Skokie D65

  • Cathy Doyle is one of the best teachers I have ever worked with - she deeply understands literacy instruction, has a keen sense of how children learn and how to engage them in their learning, and is a fantastic mentor to fellow teachers who want to improve the reading and writing skills of all their students. She is a smart and practical educator who can make any literacy curriculum come alive for students and educator colleagues.
